Excel Conversions Failing

Our company makes use of 'service accounts' that are set up with a non-expiry password.  This service account was given Administrative rights on the windows server where the Converter Service is running and is started & running as the service account.

My problem is that when I try to convert Excel documents it fails with the following:  Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

Here is the full exception from the diagnostics tool:

1/24/2012 9:53:28 AM - 3 - Client opened

1/24/2012 9:53:28 AM - 3 - Opening file: G:\A\validateEXCEL\testXLS.xls

1/24/2012 9:53:28 AM - 3 - File length: 42496

1/24/2012 9:53:30 AM - 3 - FaultException occurred: ExceptionType: Unknown

System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[TestHarness.DocumentConverterService.WebServiceFaultException]: Muhimbi.DocumentConverter.WebService.Data.WebServiceInternalException: Exception of type 'Muhimbi.DocumentConverter.WebService.Data.WebServiceInternalException' was thrown. - Details: "Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC, -2146827284"

   at Muhimbi.DocumentConverter.WebService.SpreadSheetConverterFullFidelity.Convert()

at Muhimbi.DocumentConverter.WebService.DocumentConverterService.Convert(Byte[] sourceFile, OpenOptions openOptions, ConversionSettings conversionSettings, Boolean checkLicenseStatus) (Fault Detail is equal to TestHarness.DocumentConverterService.WebServiceFaultException).

When I modify the service to run with my userid it works fine.  I see on Google searches for this error a lot of hits concerning unable to save excel documents from C#.

Any ideas of what might be missing with the service account vs my userid as far as authority is concerned?  If I knew that I could have our security team update the service account for me.

Thanks, Diane

RE:Excel Conversions Failing

Hi Diane,

Does the Excel converter validate when running under this problematic service account?

If your account is a local administrator then that is all you need. Is the default printer for this service account the XPS Document Writer?

You also need to make sure someone has logged in using this service account and launched / activated the various Office applications.

For more suggestions have a look at the troubleshooting guide at http://blog.muhimbi.com/2009/11/troubleshooting-steps-for-pdf-converter.html

Best regards,

RE:Excel Conversions Failing

Once I logged in as the service account the service is running as and launched all the Office products, now the conversions work.  Thank you!  Diane
